The much-anticipated second season of the musical adult cartoon Hazbin Hotel launches on Prime Video this week, and audience theories has been rampant.
The first season introduces a diverse group of personalities living within the afterlife, pits them against each other accompanied by songs detailing their conflicts, and establishes tense rivalries and angsty, affectionate connections that fuel fan obsession.
The community's expectations for the new season differ greatly, but certain threads emerge over and over: Will Angel Dust break free from Valentino? Might we learn more about the binding agreement constraining the enigmatic Alastor? Might certain characters' relationships evolve?
"Naturally, I don't make the show with fan service as the main goal," the showrunner stated earlier this year. "But I feel like me being a fan of my own show means there's a lot of it just inherently. I also am eager for these things, and I hope some of these things to occur, and obviously some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
The creator says her big-picture plan is for a five-season run of Hazbin Hotel. Seasons 3 and 4 have received approval by the production companies, which produce the series.
That might mean fans have to be patient for some of the major resolutions — but they may be surprised at how quickly the new season moves, and how much of what they're waiting for unfolds now.
"I feel like people are going to be highly satisfied," she adds. "There are several debut moments. I think we receive some really amazing disclosures, some really cool origin tales, and even just simple things, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] We're going to hear much more singing from the characters we didn't get to hear before."
The creator is well-informed of the theories and desires about the upcoming season — especially in the form of fan bingo cards.
"I've come across a few fans create a prediction grid about the new season," she mentions. "Naturally I can't post it, but I've already completed a few items, and nearly every one of them have almost a bingo. I thought, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that leads me to believe we do a lot [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I realized, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that brings me joy."
Hazbin Hotel season 2 premieres on Prime Video on Oct. 29.
